Why We Don’t Offer Unlimited Memberships — And What Actually Builds Strength
Unlimited fitness memberships sound great—until you realize they’re built for gyms that don’t want you to show up. Here’s why Skybound does things differently.
Why We Don’t Offer Unlimited Memberships at Skybound
Let’s be real: "Unlimited memberships" sound sexy. More access, more classes, more flexibility… more motivation, right?
Not really.
At Skybound, we’re building a gym for people who want strength to enhance their lives—not consume them. That’s why we don’t sell unlimited class packages. Instead, we offer packages that encourage 2–3 group strength training sessions a week, personalized attention, and the kind of coaching you’d expect from a $150 personal training session—for a fraction of the price.
Why?
Because results don’t come from doing more. They come from doing the right things, consistently, and giving your body time to recover.
Let’s unpack it.
The Muscle Building Process: Train Hard, Then Chill
Building muscle isn’t about doing as many workouts as possible. It’s about hitting your muscles hard enough to send a message: “Hey, you need to get stronger.”
To do that, your training needs to include:
Lifting close to muscular failure (with good form)
Strategic, progressive overload (increasing weight or reps over time)
Rest and recovery so your muscles actually rebuild and grow
That last part? It matters just as much as the training itself.
If you’re in the gym every day, chasing fatigue, you’re not training—you’re accumulating stress. That leads to burnout, stalled progress, or worse: injury.
Our class design reflects this. We program for 2–3 lifting days/week because that’s the sweet spot for long-term strength, mobility, and performance. It’s enough volume to get real results. And enough breathing room to live your life.
Unlimited Memberships: The Illusion of Value
Here’s the dirty little secret behind unlimited memberships:
Most gyms offering unlimited access are betting on you not showing up.
Big box gyms and class-based franchises (you know the ones) make their money on over-selling capacity. They want 500+ people to sign up and maybe 150 to show up consistently. Their ideal member? Someone who pays and never comes.
We don’t want that.
At Skybound, we cap our classes to 10 people max. You get a coach who knows your name, corrects your form, tracks your progress, and holds you accountable.
So we don’t sell "unlimited" because it wouldn’t be honest. We want to build a culture where you do what you pay for—and it’s exactly what you need to succeed.
Strength Training Should Support Your Life, Not Take It Over
We’re not training for the gym. We’re training for everything outside of it.
Our members hike, snowboard, box, kayak, walk the Arboretum, and play with their kids. We encourage that.
Your off days aren’t “off”—they’re an opportunity to move your body in a different way. To let your muscles rebuild and live a stronger life.
At Skybound, fitness is a tool, not a punishment. No guilt. No shame for missing a class. No pressure to "do more." Because we think the language of “Unlimited” sets the wrong expectation of how much you should be “fitnessing”.
Our motto is effective training that fits your goals.
Personal Training Quality, Small Group Price
Boston personal training costs $100–$200 per session. Most people can’t afford that 2-3x/week. So we built Skybound Group Classes to bridge the gap.
Our small group strength class model delivers:
Expert-led programming
Strength-based training that evolves with you
Pricing that works: $20–$35/class depending on membership
This isn’t generic bootcamp energy. It’s high-quality, progressive training that gets you results and fits your life.
And because we’re not pushing “unlimited,” we can give every session our full attention—and you get stronger because of it.
Bottom Line: Smart Training Wins
We’re not here to sell you access. We’re here to sell you results.
The best outcomes don’t come from doing the most. They come from focused, intentional strength training, paired with movement you enjoy outside the gym and enough recovery to actually grow.
So no, we don’t do “unlimited.” We do effective—with just the right dose of accountability, progress, and recovery to help you feel strong for life.
Ready to train with purpose? Let’s rise up—on your terms.
